Friday, June 10, Declared “Conquer Cancer Day” at LVACWS Chicago
Less than a month away from when America's Cup racing hits the freshwater of Lake Michigan for the first time in its 165-year history, Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series event organizers have announced that Friday, June 10, will be “Conquer Cancer Day” at Navy Pier. A portion of all Friday, single-day tickets, will go directly to the Conquer Cancer Foundation.
Established by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Conquer Cancer Foundation (CCF) works to create a world free from the fear of cancer by funding breakthrough research, connecting physicians and patients to the latest information, and developing programs to improve the quality of and access to cancer care for patients in Chicago and around the world.
Launched in Chicago in 2015, “The Campaign to Conquer Cancer” continues to raise funds in support of the CCF mission through a comprehensive, multi-media campaign featuring high-profile messaging, social media, and community and sporting events, including partnerships with the Chicago Cubs and the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Chicago, all with a single message – “Together, we're taking down cancer.”
“Our ultimate goal of ‘taking down’ cancer is bold”, said Thomas G. Roberts, Jr., MD, Chair of the Conquer Cancer Foundation Board of Directors, “but we truly believe it is attainable through meaningful collaboration with partners like the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Chicago. Their designation of Conquer Cancer Day at Navy Pier emphasizes the power of communities working together to make a difference in the lives of people living with cancer, and we appreciate their support.”
“The work that the Conquer Cancer Foundation does, day in and day out, is essential and commendable,” said Tod Reynolds, event director for the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Chicago event. “Unfortunately we live in an age where most know someone who has been impacted by cancer. We are proud to partner with Conquer Cancer to help raise awareness and contribute to their mission of a creating a world free from the fear of cancer.”
Friday is a key practice day for all participating Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series teams as it will be the first time they have ever raced AC45’s on fresh water. The day will conclude with a special Opening Day ceremony in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall. Fans can buy their “Conquer Cancer Day” tickets here: http://lvacws-chicago.americascup.com/tickets
