SoftBank Team Japan
SoftBank Team Japan is the latest challenger to the 35th America’s Cup, having officially announced its bid in May 2015. Founded from an idea by Kazuhiko Sofuku, who previously sailed with Nippon Challenge during the 1999/2000 Louis Vuitton Cup, the syndicate will be led by newly appointed CEO and skipper Dean Barker from New Zealand. Barker comes with more than 15 years' experience including four America’s Cup matches on board New Zealand’s ETNZ. SoftBank Team Japan will fly the colors of Kansai Yacht Club, one of the oldest and most active sailing clubs in Japan, which is backed by the telecommunications company SoftBank Group.
